MADHAV AWARDEES

Krishna Kumar Khandelwal has been a pioneer in the Indian electronics industry. During the 60s, when this industrial activity was still in its nascent stage in India, he, with his foresight, envisaged its tremendous potential and set up a project with some of the best electronics technology leaders in the world. As recognition if his contribution to this important industrial activity, he was elected to serve the All India Manufacturer's Organization (A.I.M.O.) in various capacities including that of the chairman of the Electronic council.

He was elected president of A.I.M.O. for 1986-87. Under his imaginative leadership this premier All India body expanded its activities to a number of new areas in order to serve the interest of Indian industry and the nation. Currently, Krishna Kumar Khandelwal, is a member of the advisory Board on Electronics under the department of electronics, Government of India. He is also a member of the high powered Working Group on participation of the private sector in power generation appointed by the union Energy Minister. The Scindia School confers on Krishna Kumar Khandelwal the Madhav Award, as an Old Boy of Eminence, for the year 1988.

Shri Lokendra Singh has been an active deciple of Acharaya Vinova Bhave. Since 1952 he has dedicated his life to Bhoodan, the nationwide movement for the donation of land by the prosperous to the landless. His activity has achieved for him a unique place amongst the people of Bundelkand. In 1986, he participated in the peace march from Rajghat in New Delhi to Bejing in China, which had participants from many different nations. He was instrumental in seeking the surrender of the Chambal dacoits.

The Films Division of the Government of India produced a 27-minute documentary on his life and work titled "Antim Raja". Currently, he is working towards the fulfillment of his dream of the true Panchayat Rajya in the rural areas of the country. Shri Lokendra Singh by his dynamism, leadership and devotion to the call of the people has distinguished himself as an Old Boy of the Scindia School. The Scindia School confers on Lokendra Singh the Madhav Award as for the year 1987.

Ashok Handoo had an outstanding career in the Indian Army during which he rose to the rank of Lieutenant General and the appointment as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command. During his illustrious career he took part in operations in the Jhakargha Sector during the Indo-Pak war in 1971, with distinction.

For his outstanding qualities as a soldier he was invariably selected, out of turn for special assignments and courses. He had the unique distinction of raising the first Guided Missile Battalion of the Indian Army. He was also selected by Army Headquarters for advanced specialization courses at United Kingdom and France at the National Defence College in India.

He had the distinction of being appointed Colonel of brigade of the Guards, a much coveted and rare honour in the Indian Army. The President of India conferred on him the Param Vishisht Seva Medal for Distinguished Service of the Most Exceptional Order. The Scindia School conferred on Ashok Handoo the Madhav Award as an Old Boy of Distinction for the year 1986.

Ameen Sayani has been consistently making very rich and singular contributions to broadcasting over All India Radio and television (Doordarshan) in India. He has been keenly involved in and greatly interested in the development of radio and television programmes and has been assisting the Government of India in this field in various capacities.

He has also been responsible for the propagations of Indian Programmes overseas thereby raising the image of our country in the world. Ameen Sayani has thus distinguished himself as an Eminent Old Boy of the Scindia School. The Scindia School confers on Ameen Sayani the Madhav Award as an Old Boy of Distinction for the year 1985.

Natwar Singh has been consistently making very rich and singular contributions to the formation of India's Foreign Policy as a distinguished member of the Indian Foreign Service.

During 1983 he was assigned the responsibility of organizing the 7th Nonaligned Meet (NAM) as its Secretary General and was the Chief Coordinator for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meet (CHOGAM), assignments which conducted with efficiency and distinction. In 1984 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. He has also made a mark in the field of English Literature by authoring books and articles published in India and abroad. K. Natwar Singh has thus distinguished himself as an Eminent Old Boy of the Scindia School. The Scindia School conferred him, the first Madhav Award as an Old Boy of Distinction for the year 1984.
