On February 2nd, five boys and their teacher escort set off on an extraordinary adventure at the prestigious Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in Uttarkashi. Their journey began with an overnight arrival in Delhi, followed by a bus ride to Dehradun. From there, they took a long and scenic taxi ride to Uttarkashi, finally reaching NIM late at night. After registration and a warm dinner, they met other participants, marking the beginning of their exciting expedition.
The days at NIM were filled with rigorous physical training and technical learning. Mornings began with calming cups of tea at 6 a.m., followed by hearty breakfasts and early starts on the snow-covered slopes. Under expert guidance, the group mastered skiing techniques such as slope beating, gliding, snow plough, herringbone, kick turns, and the dynamic stem swing. Alongside practical training, they attended insightful lectures on avalanche safety, mountain sickness, and first aid, delivered by experienced professionals like Mr. Saurabh Rautela and the resident medical officer.
Evenings often concluded with delicious dinners and cozy campfires, with snowflakes gently falling around them. This unique combination of adventure and learning provided the students with an unforgettable experience, building their resilience, skills, and love for the mountains.
